As Vientiane changes, so does our Villa. Originally built as a private residence for a French family in the 1960s, it hosted up to 500 children from 1992 onward as the first international school in Vientiane, before it was turned into a hotel at the beginning of this century. The current owners started an extensive renovation in March 2012 with the aim of freshening up the establishment and giving a new design to the rooms, but never touching the unique spirit of the Villa. Some of the tiles you can find on the compound are still the originals, as well as the shiny black polished wood floor on the second floor of the main building.
Despite the changes, our guests can still feel the privacy and comforts of home in each corner of the hotel. The four original buildings host 23 rooms of various styles and we have only added a new house for the kitchen and laundry. The old laundry house has been converted to a guesthouse with five new rooms, each with a private terrace in front.
We have planted new grass in our garden and use this as an extension of our restaurant, so that you can dine and enjoy relaxing moments under large shady trees. Occasionally, the garden will be turned into an open air cinema with a classic movie shown on a big screen.
Our open library is a living organism which can only survive with books in the shelves. You are gladly invited to choose a book and if you can’t finish it during your stay at Mandala Boutique Hotel, feel free to take it with you on your journey. In exchange, the library would love to welcome your old book into her old wooden cabinet. Or perhaps you will bring the book back when you return for your next stay here!
